月のあかり(Tsuki-no Akari)

Last week a Japanese rock singer Joe Yamanaka (ジョー山中)has passed away.  I will pick up his song some day, but I saw another rock singer’s face at his funeral.  His name is Masahiro Kuwana (桑名正博).

He used to be a good looking Japanese guy and almost like a pop star for some time.  He was young at that time.  He is now in his late 50’s and still enjoys playing as part-time musician besides his family business.

But, I am convinced again of his talent as a singer, when I listened to his old song “Tsuki-no Akari (月のあかり or Moonlight)”.  Even though this song was written more than 20 years ago, it is still one of the most loved songs by Japanese old boys in Osaka to sing for Karaoke today.

You see its lyric on the image but I put it in Roma-ji and in English translation below.
Another version with better sound condition is available only to be liked:

Enjoy singing!

(English translation by Japonetta just for your understanding)
"TSUKI-NO AKARI (Moonlight Ballad)"
Please don’t turn on, as the moonlight
Gently illuminates your body
Do not look back at me
Because tears come up in my eyes
It’s gonna probably be a long journey
But I’m not saying good bye
It’s just I am leaving this town

How much have you saved my soul
With each of your slight movements
I cannot express to you well
Because I am almost overcome with emotion
I was born selfish
Probably you might know that
But I say I love you, it’s first time to tell you though

Do not look back at me
Because tears come up in my eyes
It’s gonna probably be a long journey
But I’m not saying good bye
It’s just I am leaving this town
It’s just I am leaving this town

A few years ago, a new Imo-Shochu (芋焼酎 or distilled spirit made of sweet potato) was created after this song.  Of course it’s named “Tsukino-akari(月のあかり)
